The image editing unit of IIT gives students an understanding of how to edit pictures in programs such as iPhoto, Picmonkey.com, BeFunky.com, and Microsoft Word. Some of these learned skills include adding effects, tinting an image, "tagging" people in iPhoto and/or connecting certain pictures to chosen places, etc. The following are a list of pros and cons of each program.
iPhoto
Pros: Allows one to "tag" friends and family, can connect images to places all over the world, keeps track of recent photos, can "straighten" photos, retouches acne or other blemishes, fixes red eyes.
Cons: Not as many available effects as other programs.
Picmonkey.com
Pros: Has a large variety of effects, "touch-ups" (including make-up), shapes, frames, and textures. Also lets you crop and/ or resize.
Cons: Many effects cost money to use.
BeFunky.com
Pros: Features many of the same picture-editing tools as Picmonkey.com, including shapes, frames,
touch-ups, effects, crop, resize, adding a tint, etc.
Cons: Does not allow you to "tag" or connect photos to places as in iPhoto.
Microsoft Word
Pros: Allows you to recolor, crop, add effects, adjust transparency, contrast and brightness. You can
also wrap the text in a Word document around the image.
Cons: does not fix red eyes or blemishes.
The image editing program that I found most useful was picmonkey.com because it had such a large variety of tools.
Tips
-In Microsoft Word, to edit a picture you have inserted, select the picture and the toolbox will be expanded to allow you to edit.
-In iPhoto, you can open recent projects by clicking on either "Last 12 Months" or "Last Import" under "Recent." If you have flagged a photo, it will also be under "recent" ("Flagged").
-You can use iPhoto to recognize faces or pin a certain photo to a location.
